On May 10, 2018, the Astorian event center in Houston, Texas, was the stage for a charity dinner organized by the Alcides & Rosaura Diniz Foundation (ARD Foundation). About 200 guests, among them artists, sports stars, and fashion icons such as Laís Ribeiro, an ambassador to the Foundation, participated in the event. Throughout the night, travel experiences to Maui, Belize, Costa Rica, and France, paintings, and jewelry were auctioned. One of the most anticipated items was a diamond made with the hair of Pelé. The money raised was donated to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Located right in the Houston area, this institute is a world leader in genomics research, a cancer treatment therapy that is growing in efficiency around the globe. During the Gala, ARD honored TV host Sabrina Parlatore and basketball player Nenê, who plays for the NBA’s Houston Rockets. Both received ARD’s Hope Award for being cancer survivors who serve as inspiration to those still fighting this difficult battle. The night also featured singer Aline Muniz who, in the beginning of the year, released her first album in the United States (Bpm: Brazilian pop Music), has performed in Vail and in New York, and opened the 2018 Layana Aguilar no New York Fashion Week. She recorded a song especially for the Foundation.
