Music lesson with recorders at the oncology department of the Instituto Nacional do Câncer (INCA)’s children’s ward in the city of Rio de Janeiro

October 18, 2019 was a special day for the ARD Foundation. One of the Foundation’s ambassadors, Ryon Sax, took some time off his concert-filled schedule to live out a unique experience at the oncology department of the Instituto Nacional do Câncer (INCA)’s children’s ward in the city of Rio de Janeiro. For a few hours, the multi-instrumentalists interacted with children undergoing treatment for numerous different types of cancer. The children, very smart and curious, learned from Ryon about musical notes and how to play children’s songs on the recorder, a very light instrument that does not require a lot of physical strength to be played. At the end of the lesson, the musician did a performance with his powerful saxophone and brought tremendous happiness even to the chemotherapy sector, where children could, for once, have a moment of relaxation. The event was organized by INCAvoluntários, in partnership with ARD, and promises an encore soon.
